P Chidambaram calls for unity at Jessami public meeting

UKHRUL, November 2: The Union home minister P. Chitambaram today inaugurated the Ukhrul Jessami Primary Health Centre (PHC), a 33/11 power sub-station, Sub-Divisional Officer,(SDO), TD office and Sub- Divisional Police Officer(SDPO) Office complexes today in presence of the state Chief Minister, O.Ibobi Singh, state power/ horti & sc / sc & tech. minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Manipur State Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam along with Shambu Singh IAS, joint secretary North East and AK Yadav OSD to PMO.

After the inaugural programmes, the Union home minister also addressed a huge public gathering at the Jessami local ground and greeted the gathering saying that it was his happiest day after taking office as Union minister of home affairs.

He further said that with the inauguration of the office complexes today, many adjoining villages will benefit for the many years to come.

He further stressed that the inauguration of the PHC will act as the most beneficial for the villagers as villagers of more than ten neighbouring villages will be able to get treatment and medical care.

Further elaborating on the inauguration of various office complexes today, he stated that the people of the villages will benefit in availing land settlements, issuing of certificates through the newly inaugurated SDO office, while the coming-up of the SDPO Office will ensure better control of crime as well as traffic and the inauguration of the Power Sub-Station will ensure reliable power sources to the people of the area.

He also acknowledged that we belong to one country despite of living in a multi-lingual, multi-tribes, races, religion, people, communities or colours society and further added that wherever we are or whatever we do, ‘being Indian’ should always be first.

The Union home minister also expressed his gladness that both the Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R. Sudhan and Ukhrul Superintentend of Police (SP) Kabib hail from his home state Tamil Nadu and further added that coming from such a long way to serve the people of Ukhrul District signifies that all people in the country will live together in peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, the state Chief Minister who accompanied the Union minister further provided assurance to the Jessami village that the existing village Government High School will be up-graded to Hr. Secondary School by next academic session. He also handed over a cash package with a sum of Rupees 50,000/- to the village authority for hosting the programme.

The function was attended by various district level officers (DLOs) initiated by the DC UKhrul, NGOs, general public and students` organizations including Jessami Students` Union who the host local body and various northern headmen and various political party leaders and workers, students and villagers of Jessami gathered at the local ground under tight arrangement made by the SP Ukhrul Kabib by deploying adequate number of Ukhrul district police, MR, VDF personnel within the village surroundings.
