Police foil rally demanding merger of Zeliangrong areas for failure to produce official permit

IMPHAL, November 17: Police this late morning stopped a silent rally demanding merger of all Zeliangrong areas into Tamenglong district as the organizers failed to show the required rally permit which should be issued by the concerned deputy commissioner.

The rally organized by the Committee Against the Creation of Sadar Hills District started from Ragailong ground and was stopped even before reaching the Dingku road.

Soon after the rally started from Ragailong ground, Imphal west district police led by addl SP Herojit (LO) arrive near the interjunction of Namduilong road and Dingku Road. The police team further requested from the rally organizers to produced the required DC permit for organizing the rally, however the organizers failed to produce the permit.

While citing that the district is currently clamped with CrPC 144, the police officer informed the rallyist that the rally cannot go any further without the official documents required and turned back the rally.

Later on, the police allowed four members of the organizers to submit their memorandum to the Governor and the Chief Minister.

More than a 1000 individuals of the Zeliangrong community participated in the rally.
