Police foils protest rally against TAKDO office burning

IMPHAL, November 23: Police today blocked a protest rally taken out against the act of setting on fire the office of the Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organization, TAKDO after the organizers failed to produce the required rally permit which should be issued by the concerned deputy commissioner.

The rally by torch bearing members and supporters of the organization started from the TAKDO office at Khuyathong however was barricaded by a police team led by SDPO, N Madhunimai near the Khuyathong Pukhri Achouba.

Meanwhile, president TAKDO Khumukcham Joykishan speaking to media persons informed that the rally was taken out against the burning of the office.

He further stated that the organization strongly condemned the arson and further appealed that since the general election is coming, it is time for the people to work together in a peaceful manner and all such violent incidents should be shunned and condemned by the people of the state.

He further appealed to the members and sympathizers of the organization to shun any kind of violent response to the incident.

He further condoled the incident saying that the fire had spread to a neighbouring building.

He also added that the fire has destroyed property worth around Rs 15 lakhs and three vehicles. The three vehicles are Hyundai Verna, Maruti 800 and a Hyundai Getz. He also added that the Verna has been completely burned by the fire.

The fire has also destroyed the organizations files and other office properties, he added.

He has appealed to the people not to repeat such acts in the future
