IMPHAL, November 26: In a tragic incident a 24 year old pregnant woman was found hanging inside her home yesterday by family members at Thoubal Ningombam.
The victim has been identified as one Ningombam Dhanamajuri alias Naobi, 24, w/o Ningombam Niranjan of Thoubal Ningombam.
Meanwhile, according to family source the deceased was seven months pregnant
Further according to the husband’s family, the couple had a heated argument last night around 8pm and that minutes after she was found hanging from the wooden stair of the family.
She was rushed to Thoubal district hospital however succumbed before reaching the hospital.
The source however declined to give the reason behind the argument.
Elder sister of the deceased has further alleged that the victim had been complaining of constant harassment by her husband and also disclosed that her husband is having extra marital affairs with another woman for the past several months.
Suspicious over the death, the maternal family of the victim along with the locality of the victim organised a meeting today at Thoubal Ningomba where a joint action committee against the death was also formed.
The meeting later turned ugly when it stormed Niranjan’s house and ransacked the properties.
In an attempt to neutralize the mob police fired several rounds of tear gas shells, and blank fired to disperse the mob however no human casualty was reported during the police action.
Niranjan is said to be a police constable currently posted at Wangjing Police outpost and is reportedly under custody of the Thoubal Police.
The lifeless body of the victim is still lying at the JNIMS morgue as the family members and JAC has denied to claim the corpse of the victim until befitting punishment is awarded to the responsible person.
