Stakeholders want enhancement of medical tourism in state

IMPHAL, November 25: Various stakeholders participating in the ongoing Sangai Festival, 2011 have expressed their desire for the development of medical tourism in the state.

Managing director, Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Dr Kh Palin stated that medical tourism can be well-developed in the state only when there are highly advanced medical facilities such as for organ transplantation, infertility, cataract, joint replacement, trauma centre etc.

He further maintained that Shija Hospital has partnered the Sangai Festival with the objective of imparting mass awareness on health and medicine to the general public. 

Dr Palin also appealed to the authorities concerned to initiate “health visa” from patients across the country’s border.

Project director of National Rural Health Mission, Manipur, Davish Dhawan stated that the visitors can have tests for haemoglobin, weight and blood pressure at the NHRM stall opened at the ongoing Sangai Festival. Two doctors and two nurses are currently looking after the stall.

The NHRM is further aiming to provide better healthcare facilities even in the remotest parts of the state. Various mobile operation vans are being utilized to serve the people of the state, he noted.

Dr Helena of Dr Helena Eye Care stated that she intends to raise awareness amongst the people on proper eye care. The festival as such will serve as the best platform to impart any new good idea to the visitors, she added.
