Two alleged killers face mob violence; houses ransacked, properties burnt

Property of one of the accused burning at the courtyard of his residence. Enraged locals set on fire the properties belonging to two individuals after they were accused of killing a VDF personnel at Takyel Khongban Mayai Leikai on Thursday.

IMPHAL, November 10: A mob ransacked houses belonging to two individuals before setting their properties ablaze, alleging them of being involved in the killing of a Village Defense Force (VDF) personnel this morning at around 10am at Takyel Khongban Mayai Leikai, Imphal west district.

The two alleged accused are identified as Khundrakpam Samu Singh and Ahongsangbam Ranbir Singh while the victim has been identified as RK Robert alias Rambo, 22, s/o RK Khelen of the same locality a VDF personnel posted at Iroisemba outpost.

The victim’s father informed media persons that his son Robert had return home at around 8:30pm on the night of November 8, however soon after he again left telling him that their next door neighbour is calling him. The house belongs to the accused Ranbir.

He further informed that minutes after he left, family heard some commotion and the victim yelling for help, the father alleged.

When the family rushed to Ranbir’s house the victim was found bleeding with head injury at Ranbir’s premises, he further informed.

He was immediately rushed to JNIMS and later succumbed to his injury on November 9, afternoon around 1:30 pm the next day.

The father later alleged that families of Ranbir and Shamu led by the two have killed his son by hitting him with bamboo sticks on his head.

Meanwhile, hearing the death of Robert at JNIMS, angered locals of Takyel Khongban Mayai Leikai today stormed the houses of the duo (accused) and went on a rampage, destroying the properties of the two accused.

Later the mob displaced all the properties outside the houses and set them on fire.

The locality along with the family resolved not to claim the lifeless body of the victim until the alleged culprits involved in the killing are booked and punish under the law.

Further it has been informed that one of the alleged culprits, Khundrakpam Samu has been arrested by the Lamphel police while the other accused remain traceless.
