Two militants including woman cadre held at Guwahati

IMPHAL, November 14: Security forces have arrested two militant cadres from Guwahati including a woman cadre yesterday.

According to a source, a team of Assam police and Bishnupur district police commandos reportedly arrested two cadres of the proscribed Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) late last night at around 10:30 pm from Sinmela village under Guwahati Police Station, Assam.

The arrested individuals have been identified as s/s lt. col. and chief medical officer Nameirakpam Devilata alias Madam Choubi, 52, d/o (L) Koruoubi Singh of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai and Naorem Ranjit alias Nongyai, 36, s/o N. Sanou of Jiribam Sarok Atingbi S/S corporal.

Reports said that the combined team recovered four mobile handsets along with nine sim cards from the two militant cadres.

On the other hand, a statement issued by PIB Defense Wing has stated that a combined force of 10 Assam Rifles of Logtak Brigade and 30 Assam Rifles and Imphal west police commandos apprehended one over ground worker of KCP (MC) namely Phirenjan Kalanjay Singh alias Tamo, 48, s/o (L) PH Kameshwar resident of Phumlou Siphai, district Imphal west from Phumlou Siphai, on November 12.

It has further stated that on further questioning, the individual revealed the location of an arms cache following which one AK-47 Rifle with magazine and 60 live rounds, one 0.303 Mod Rifle with grenade launcher alongwith four grenades, one sten machine gun with magazine and ten live rounds, three Chinese hand grenades with three detonators, two ammunition pouches, one magazine of 9mm Pistol and two walky talky sets were recovered by the combined forces, it said.

It said the over ground worker along with the recovered items has been handed over to Imphal Police Station.
