UNC blockade supporters torch truck, truck driver dead in unrelated accident

IMPHAL, November 15: Suspected United Naga Council (UNC) blockade supporter burnt down a truck at Sotbung Village this early morning at around 4:30 am at Senapati district.

The registration number of the burnt truck has been established as MN0S3-0685.

According to sources, some unknown individuals stopped the trucks while it was passing along and torch the vehicle using petrol without any warning.

The arson destroyed the truck beyond redemption, said the report.

It may be recalled that the UNC had imposed indefinite counter economic blockade against the economic blockade of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) since August 21.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated accident, a truck driver was killed while a handyman sustained serious injuries when the truck accidentally fell into a gorge in between Nungba and Kambirol village along the national Highway 37 last evening around 7pm.

The deceased victim has been identified as Mayengbam Amujao alias Surjit, 28, s/o Khoba of Uchiwa Mayai Leikai while the injured handyman is identified as Soram Manikhomba alias Kalamu, 18, s/o Tombi of Kumbi Terakhong.

The injured handyman is being hospitalized at RIMS hospital.

The registration number of the ill-fated truck has been established as AS01/DC-8517. The truck was heading for Jiribam to transport essential commodities, sources said.
