UNC to consider lifting counter blockade after Union home minister`s assurance

IMPHAL, November 24: A delegation of the United Naga Council(UNC), including its president and the general secretary have  met Union home minister P. Chidambaram at his Delhi office in North Block on the evening of the November 22 and apprised him of the concerns of the Naga people on the issue  of Sadar Hills upgradation, informed a press release of the council.

It has further informed that the Union minister have assured the UNC team that the government of Manipur, as committed by the Manipur Chief Minister on the November 2 at Tahamzam(Senapati) in his presence, would not take any unilateral decision on the Sadar Hills issue without consulting the Nagas and also that he would give an assurance to that effect in writing.

It has further added that the UNC has since received an official communication on the above meeting with the Union home minister from the MHA today along with a request to lift the economic blockade on the National Highways.

The matter would be taken up and decision taken in its emergency presidential council meeting that will be convened on the November 28 at Tamenglong headquarters soon after the public rally on Alternative Arrangement is carried out, it added.
