IMPHAL, Nov 30: The series of rally organized under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC) in different hills district of the state, to pressurize the government of India in demand for ‘alternative arrangement’ for the Nagas living in Manipur today concluded at Senapati district head quarter.
A huge turnout of people was witnessed during the rally spearheaded by UNC, TNL, ANSAM, SDSA, NPO, Naga Women Union, committee for alternative arrangement etc.
The rally started from Senapati traffic point, National Highway 2, and concluded at Senapati public ground after covering several parts of the district head quarter.
The rallyist during the rally displayed placards and banners saying “Expedite alternative arrangement”,“alternative arrangement pending issue of Indo-Naga issue”, “future of the Nagas, decision of the Nagas”, “No alternative arrangement, no rest” etc. besides chanting slogans though out the rally.
Addressing the gathering UNC general secretary Gaidon Kamei, opined that the government of India and the government of Manipur have been suppressing the rights of the Nagas for a long time using various tactics.
He claimed that the so called ‘Supra state body’ as reported in one regional newspaper is a policy to fuel hatred against Nagas. However the Nagas are fed up of war or any other form of violence.
Whatever the tactics may be the spirit of the Nagas cannot be killed and the Nagas must stand united and be ready to extend their support of whatever the UNC is planning as it is for the Nagas, further stated the UNC secretary.
The UNC announced of a massive campaign since November 12 at Thonglang Akutpa against the delay of the GOI to settle the issue of ‘alternative arrangement’ for the Nagas outside government of Manipur.
Similar rally and public meetings were also organized at Chandel, Ukhrul and Tamenglong district.
The UNC president L. Adani also read out the common declaration that was also adopted at Ukhrul, Tamenglong.
