Yaingangpokpi locals cast extortion slur on SoO group cadres

IMPHAL, November 6: Two alleged cadres of a Kuki militant group under Suspension of Operation with the state government have extorted around Rs 6300 after forcibly opening shops of a certain community at Yaingangpokpi bazar area late last night at around 9:30pm, charged locals of the area.

According to a local, the two individuals were carrying an AK rifle and a SLR rifle. He further informed that the individuals came at the bazar area at around 9:30pm to 11:30pm and forced open shops belonging to a certain community and extorted ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1200 per shop.

Another local further charged that the cadres further snatched money from an auto driver.

He further charged the alleged SoO signatory cadres to break the doors of the shops that refused to open.

Meanwhile, decrying the incident, shops belonging to all communities remained closed today and will remain closed till tomorrow.

The shop owners of the area have further appealed to the government to take action regarding the incident.
