AMWJU lifts police boycott

IMPHAL Dec 12: The boycott imposed on the police department by the state scribes’ body AMWJU following an assault of its member L Keshonanda on December 8 at Babupara has been lifted with immediate effect following a personal apology tendered by the main accused.

Maibam Sumon, 30, s/o M Apabi of New Checkon who was the main accused in the attack gave his statement to a joint meeting of editors and standing committee of AMWJU held today at Manipur Press Club. He along with the scribes went to the residence of Keshonanda where Maibam Sumon tendered his apology to the family members and to the injured scribe. Following the incident, the case registered to the police by the injured has also been taken back, a release by AMWJU general secretary S Sujeshwor said.
