Arrested militant identified himself as extortionist: police

IMPHAL, December 24: A team of the cdo/Imphal east arrested one UNLF cadre identified as Takhellambam Dinesh alias Iyamcha Singh, 33 s/o T lokhon Singh of Chanam Sandrok Awang Leikai from his locality, stated a release of the SP, Imphal east on December 22 at about 4:30pm.

Further according to the release, on further verification, Dinesh disclosed that he is an active member of the outfit and had joined under one Maipak.

Meanwhile, on December 23 a combined team of cdo/Imphal east and personnel of 28 AR arrested one PREPAK cadre identified as Takhelambam Biken Meetei alias Ibungo, 30, s/o T Muhindro Meetei of Thambalkhong Laishram Leikai and one .32 pistol marked as automatoc pistol made in Italy B/No 7000 loaded with three live rounds in the magazine was recovered from his possession, the release further added.

On further verification, he disclosed that he joined the PREPAK in the year 2005 through one Jems of Singjamei Chingamakha area and that he was involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials, businessmen etc, transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another and providing shelter to PREPAK cadres, the release added.

Meanwhile, a PRO release has claimed that discovering the movement of UG cadres in the general area of Tampi Chakpikarong, troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in the area and apprehended one PLA cadre on December 23.

It has further identified the apprehendee as No.1202 l/cpl Laishram Rohen alias Borlak alias Langamba, 34.

One Pt 38 Revolver and two Pt 38 revolver live rounds were recovered from the apprehendee who alongwith the recovered items was handed over to Sinchima Police station, the release added.
