IMPHAL, December 19: One captain ranked cadre of the NSCN (IM) was reportedly killed during a gun-fight early this morning between cadres of NSCN (IM) and ZUF at Gangpizang village of Tamenglong district.
According to a reliable source, the gun battle had continued since yesterday morning with brief intervals.
Getting information that a heavy team of ZUF was trying to establish its base camp at the area since the last three days, NSCN (IM) cadres had arrived to put a check on the ZUF activities. In the ensuing fight a captain of the NSCN (IM) has been killed, the source informed.
An official confirmation is however awaited till the filling of this report.
In yet another unrelated incident, there have been reports of gun-fight between cadres of NSCN (IM) and UNLF at the border village of Nambisa in Ukhrul district.
A reliable source has also informed that the reported gun-fight between the two proscribed militant groups was a result of some NSCN (IM) cadres trying to set up a camp at the area which is the transit route for cadres of the UNLF.
The gun-fight between the two groups extended for more than three hours starting from 1pm to 4pm today, added the source.
meanwhile authorities have been unable to confirm the report due to the site being in the extreme Indo-Myanmar border.
