IMPHAL, December 21: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today formally handed over to the public, the Tribal Market shed constructed exclusively for the tribal vendors at New Lambulane in Imphal east. Vendors licence for all the stall owners were formally handed over to the rightful owners during a function held at the market complex today.
Speaking at the function O Ibobi Singh said the newly constructed market shed was formally inaugurated by the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her visit to the state recently but it could not be handed over to the public due to lack of infrastructural lacunae.
Stating that the Manipur government has been taking up every means for the welfare of the street vendors, the Chief Minister further said that congestions of vendors at Khwairamband market would certainly come down as the government is all set to construct another market shed at Chingmeirong area where remaining street vendors of Khwairamband bazar would be accommodated.
The Chief Minister also gave his assurance that the demand raised by the general public of New Lambulane for construction of a Community Hall at the market complex would be fulfilled soon. He said the upper floor of the market shed could be utilised as community hall for which necessary steps could be taken up soon.
While stating that the newly constructed market shed is no longer a government property but for the public, the Chief Minister appealed the general public to keep the market area neat and clean.
Speaking at the function H Dileep, director, Tribal Affairs & Hills said the newly constructed Market shed could accommodate altogether 636 stalls and all the related documents have been handed over to stall owners. Out of the total stalls, 582 have been reserved exclussively for vegetables and cloths and the remaining for meat and fish. Dilip also cautioned the meat stalls that no live animal could be brought at the market area for selling.
