IMPHAL, Dec 5: Unhappy with the SPF government’s to act out on the Chief Minister’s assurance to provide white collar jobs to the next of the kin of the victims of March 24, 2008 heirok firing incident, the locals of Heirok has decided to hold a mass sit in protest in front of the community hall cum library shed built in memory of the victims of the Heirok firing incident, which is still lying incomplete.
On March 24, 2008, three persons including a girl were killed and another girl left blind during an indiscriminate firing by militant cadres while a Thabal Chongba was in progress at Heirok part I public ground. The indiscriminate firing left three identified as Thokchom Romesh, s/o Th Khomdon of Heirok Pt II, Thokchom Promita Devi, d/o Th Mohan and Laishram Nirmala Chanu, d/o L Thambou both residents of Heirok Pt I dead and another girl identified as Warokpam Rebika, d/o W Inaobi of Kairen Bikhok, Thoubal.
Families of the victims conveyed a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club announcing the sit in protest.
Brother of Nirmala, L Bishorjit informed the media persons that the acting on the demands of the public and the JAC formed against the firing incident, the state government had acted out some of the demands which included setting up of the Special Police officers and the setting up of a new police outpost at heirok, however the government has also failed to complete the construction of a community hall cum public library at the crematorium site of the three victims.
The state government has also failed one of the major demands of the JAC to provide befitting government jobs to the next of kin of the victims till date even though the government had assured to do so several times, he added.
He further stated that the local of Heirok will resume its previous forms of agitations if the government failed to meet the demands of the family.
