Election in Manipur a fanfair marked by money power, gun power: UNLF chief

IMPHAL, December 26: UNLF chairman RK Sanayaima, who is currently under the custody of NIA, has asserted that no political party should utilise plebiscite as election issue in the upcoming Manipur legislative assembly election.

Speaking to media persons while being produced before a NIA designated court at Guwahati today, the UNLF chief said the outfit brought up the plebiscite issue before the government of India to handover the lost sovereignty of the Manipuris. Therefore the issue of Plebiscite should not be used as a political issue by any political party during the upcoming Manipur legislative assembly election.

Insurgency problem in the North eastern states would never cease till the Indian government work in tune with the pulse of the people and to get them peace, he added.

Stating that it is natural for people living without peace to feel angry, Meghen said time has come for people of the North East region to unite.

Replying to a query that a new government in Manipur after the election is unlikely to take up the issue of plebiscite meaningfully, Meghen said election in Manipur is a festival marked with money power, muscle power, gun power apart from intoxicating people.

When asked about training camps of the UNLF in the territory of Myanmar and Bangladesh, Meghen replied that the outfit have no training camps in either Burma or Bangladesh. He also maintained that all the training camps for the outfit are located inside the Manipur territory.

The jailed rebel leader also alleged that all the insurgency related killings, bomb blasts, extortions etc. in Manipur are being done by central forces like CRPF, Assam Rifles etc. Surrender ceremony or home coming ceremonies organised regularly in Manipur by government forces are performed intentionally to demoralise the revolutionary movement, the UNLF chief said.
