Grenade lobbed at Heingang block Congress president`s residence

IMPHAL, December 9: Even as the Congress party is celebrating the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s 65th Birth anniversary today unidentified miscreants lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of Heingang Block Congress Committee (I) president Chanamthabam Inaobi, 46, s/o Ch Bhudha of Lairikyengbam leikai, Salan Leirak under Lamphel Police this late evening at around 9:20pm.

The bomb exploded above the tin roof of his household veranda, leaving the tin roof with a hole.

Other than the damage of the tin roof and some window glass panes, there were no human casualties.

Meanwhile, Inaobi told this reporter that he has no idea behind the reason of the grenade attack. He also added that there have been no threats or monetary demands from any groups or outfits.

He further stated that his family members were inside the kitchen, which averted any major casualty from the grenade attack.

He further appealed to all concerned to come clean on the attack and not to repeat such attacks.

Meanwhile, a strong team of Imphal east police and Lamphel police consisting of civil as well as commandos arrive at the attack site and conducted a brief combing operation of the area, however couldn’t make any arrest.

Local MLA and IFCD minister N Biren also arrived at the site to take stock of the attack.

On being asked if the attacked could be related to the recent threat to Congress workers and members by a faction of the KCP, the minister informed that it would be too immature to relate the two, however he urged all concerned not to repeat such incidents again.
