IED recovered from busy Tiddim road median detonated safely at Langol

IMPHAL, December 24: Police recovered an IED bomb weighing around 3kg from the road median in front of the Bahai Sanglen, Tiddim Road this morning while unidentified miscreants lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of one EE of the Manipur University Sanasam Rajen of Kakwa Pechu Lampak this evening.

According to a source, the Lamphel police was informed by a troop of the 16 Sikh Regiment posted at Tulihal Airport about the presence of the IED at the road median of the busy Tiddim road.

Acting on the information a bomb squad of the Manipur police accompanied by a team of the Lamphel police arrived and removed the explosive safely around 11:30am this morning.

The bomb which according to the bomb experts could have been remote controlled was safely detonated at Langol area this evening by the bomb squad at around 1:30pm.

Meanwhile, in yet another bomb related incident, unidentified miscreants suspected to be militant cadres lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of Sanasam Rajen which landed on his second floor terrace.

The bomb however failed to explode and was safely removed by the concerned PS after the family informed them about the attack.

However, the reason behind both the IED and the grenade attack are yet to be ascertained, the concerned police stations informed.
