JAC of Irilbung double-murder imposes 24-hour state bandh from Dec 19 midnight

IMPHAL, December 18: The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Soram Ibomcha, 60 and his son Geetchandra alias Yaiphu of Irilbung has announced a 24 hour state-wide general strike from the mid-night of December 19 to midnight 20 in protest against the brutal killing of the father and son by the KCP (MTF) Kesho Meitei group.

The dead bodies of the father and son were found on December 16 morning with bullet injuries on their heads at Yairipok Angtha village under Yairipok Police.

The JAC announced the general strike during a press conference held at Irilbung Bazar, this afternoon.

Speaking to media persons, convenor of the JAC, W Manihar Luwang stated that the JAC has already demanded from the state government to take action against the PHED chief engineer M Imocha for his negligence and irresponsible behaviour regarding the kidnapping of the father and son. The JAC had also demanded a livelihood for the family and appropriate actions and compensation. The JAC had also demanded that the government should also punished the responsible criminals at the earliest, he added.

He further added that the locals of Irilbung including the JAC and the family members of the victims are praying to God that Kesho Meitei and all his followers should meet the same fate as the father and son, that they get killed in the same manner.

Prior to the press conference, the JAC and locals had convened a public meeting also during which, effigies of both KCP (MTF) Kesho Meitei and the chief engineer were also burned down at Irilbung bazar.

Further in a show of solidarity to the family members of the victims and the JAC, locals of Kongba Khunou staged a sit-in-protest at their locality today. The sit-in-protest was attended by more than three hundred locals.

Meanwhile, late in the evening today, the JAC led a procession of local meira paibis, club volunteers and locals towards the Chief Minister’s bungalow to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, however police intervened the procession at Sanjenthong.

The police stopped the procession from submitting the memorandum citing that the Chief Minister is not available at his bungalow at the moment.
