“Meira Paibis emerged to safeguard the state from atrocities of security forces”

IMPHAL, Dec 29: The 31st anniversary of the establishment of “Meira Paibi’ was observed today by All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen located at Palace Compound.

Speaking at the observation, president of UCM Yunamcha Dilip said women torch bearer popularly known as Meira Paibi came out to the streets during the night in the early part of 1980 primarily to control intoxicants, crimes of heinous nature and to defend the people of the state from atrocities of central security forces. Women of the state have been confronting these issues from time to time and they would continue to do so in the years to come, the UCM leader added.

The observation was also attended by several leaders of the state level social organisations namely president of the AMSRDS Keisham Taruni, Thokchom Ramani, secretary Nupi Samaj.
