MLA Shyamkumar urges farmers to avoid excessive fertilizer use

IMPHAL, Dec 10: A farmers’ field school was inaugurated today by Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar at Itham Moirangpurel, Imphal East.

Speaking at the inaugural function, MLA Shyamkumar stated that the farmers should toil to be self-sufficient in food. They should utilize modern techniques to enhance productivity and bring sustainable development to the state, he added.

Deputy director (soil chemist), Ph Rajendra asserted that Itham Moirangpurel area is a producer of good quality pea in the state.

The farmers should take utmost benefits from the field school. They should not follow the instructions of agricultural experts and avoid excessive use of fertilizers which are harmful to health, he appealed.

The inaugural function was also attended by Nongthombam Bimol, president NILSAL-IE, G Shamu Kabui, deputy director of agriculture department, Y Ratan, vice-president of All Manipur Progressive Farmers’ Association and Dr Kh Ibohal, Associate Professor, CAU, Imphal.
