Opposition MLA O Joy raises Supra state issue; CM reiterates no question of Supra state

IMPHAL, December 21: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has reiterated that there is no question of forming a Supra state body inclusive of Naga inhabited areas of Manipur. Both the Prime Minister of the country and the Union home minister have already made their clarifications regarding the matter, he added.

The Chief Minister gave this comment during his reply to a call attention motion raised by senior Opposition member O Joy Singh of the MPP on the second day of the ongoing 12th session (Winter session) of the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The central government had intimated the state government that there is no question of forming Supra state body, O Ibobi Singh informed the House reiterating that state government would never allow any move to disintegrate Manipur.

Following media reports, the state government took the matter regarding the formation of Supra state body very seriously and took up the issue to the central government which later clarified about its none formation or having any knowledge about it, he added. Even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his visit to the state recently had clarified about the matter during a public meeting held at Kangla, he stated.

The Chief Minister further added that the state government had also informed the central government not to take up any action which could disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Earlier, raising the call attention motion, senior Opposition member O Joy Singh had drawn the attention of the House that news reports about the formation of Supra state body continue to haunt the people of Manipur and that the government need to bring out a White Paper on the matter.

In reply to another calling attention motion, the Chief Minister informed the House that the state home department is not remaining silent on the issue of tackling crime against women and domestic violence.

While admitting that crimes against women and domestic violence have been increasing in the state, the Chief Minister said the government is taking up every possible means to tackle the heinous crimes.

Earlier, ruling MLA N Mangi of the CPI, while raising the issue of increasing crime against women and domestic violence, had also drawn the attention of the House and had stated that stern action need to be taken up to minimise crime against women and domestic violence.
