Projects aimed at public welfare cannot be accomplished without public co-operation, CM tells college anniv gathering

IMPHAL December 10: The Chief Minister today attended a series of programmes including the 96th birth anniversary of (l) Mirang Koireng and inauguration of the Wangjing Lamding Keithel.

The Chief Minister had also attended the 30th anniversary observation of the Chandel South East Manipur College.

Construction on the Wangjing Lamding Keithel built under the ministry of Urban Poverty Elevation funding at a cost of Rs 4.47 lakhs began from February 2006 and had a deadline for completion by December 2010. The Chief Minister inaugurated the keithel today.

In a separate occasion, the Chief Minister also attended the 30th anniversary observation of the Chandel South East Manipur College.

Speaking at the function as the chief guest, the Chief Minister informed that the state government has thinking over to upgrade Wangjing and some nagar panchayats into municipality status.

He stated that the government could have accorded municipality status to Wangjing earlier, but has remained delayed due to some unforeseen factors.

A big project aimed at public welfare cannot be accomplished without the co-operation of the public. Today the state government focuses on the development of health, education and communication facilities in the state, the Chief Minister stated.

Education minister DD Thaisii who also attended the function stated that a lot of colleges have tendered their applications urging for grant-in-aids however officials of the department concerned have found out during surprise visits to these colleges that most of them hardly deserve the grant.

However he also added that the Komlathabi college is eligible for availing the grant in aid.

The minister also opined on colleges giving quality performance if they want to avail such grants, he said.

Speaking as the president of the function, MLA M Hemanta stated that the state government is planning to upgrade the Wangjing constituency from panchayat status to municipality.

The function was also attended by health minister L Jayanta, MLA O Landhoni, Y Surchandra and other government officials.

In yet another function, the Chief Minister attended the 96th birth anniversary of late M Koireng, former-Chief Minister and freedom fighter cum a ‘One day block level political convention’ at Chengei Lampak, Moirang.

The CM speaking at the occasion stated that the public should keep their trust in the SPF government and elect its members to bring about further development in the state.

During the decade long SPF term, various developmental projects have been taken up in the state both in the hills and the valley areas. Many projects have also remained unfinished and if the public think that these projects have to see the daylight of development; then they must re-elect the SPF for the third consecutive term, he added.

He further stated that the government has plans to enlarge the INA complex as it is a historical place and has the potential of a major tourist attraction in the state.

In order to requisition the required land for the enlargement of the INA, the CM said that it would affect the Moirang Municipal Council and that the Council will have to be shifted to the Family Welfare Department, Moirang branch.

The Chief Minister further announced that the NH 150 to Moirang bazar to Sendra will be made into a four lane road and that the state government has deposited a sum of Rs 50 lakhs in the state budget for the newly constructed Khamnu bazar.

The function was attended by speaker I Hemochandra, MPCC president Gaikhangam, state government chip whip T Mangibabu, works minister K. Ranjit, MLA O. Landhoni and Morung Makunga.
