IMPHAL, December 8: Security forces claimed arresting five militant cadres belonging to two different militant groups from separate counter insurgency operations on December 7.
An official statement of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal west district, has stated that a combined team of the district commandos and troops of 28 Assam Rifles, arrested three cadres of the NSCN (K) under the supervision of Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, MPS, DSP-CDO Imphal West on December 7.
In the first incident the combined team arrested two NSCN (K) cadre from B.T road near Samu Makhong around 6 pm yesterday.
They have been identified as s/s sgt. major Gaithourung alias Gaithoumei Rongmei, 26, s/o (L) Kanamsui Rongmei of Gangloem Khullen, Tamenglong (army No. 14851) and Kadibung Rongmei, 20, s/o Damchuilung Rongmei of Khapum Luwanglon Khullen, Tamenglong.
It has further asserted that on spot verification Gaithourung disclosed to have joined the outfit in the year 2002 and that he received basic military training in the year 2006 at Agroman camp, Jiribam. He was promoted to the rank of s/s 2nd lieutanant, town commander, Imphal while Kabidung disclosed to have joined NSCN (K) in the 2010 through one Gaithourung.
The team in a follow up action arrested another active cadre of the outfit from Thangmeiband Tarung area following the disclosure of Gaithourung, further added the statement.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Kathudin Rongmei, 35, s/o (L) Giakhonglung Rongmei of Khunglong Part-II, Imphal west. He disclosed to have joined the outfit in the year 2011 through Niethenel and working under his command.
On the other hand, a statement issued by the office of the Senior SP, Imphal east district has stated that the district police commandos arrested a cadre of the PREPAK militant the same day at around 3 pm from Sawombung Bazar near the waiting shed.
The cadre has been identified as one Ningombam Abung Singh, 38, s/o (L) N Nila Singh of Huidrom Myai Leikai.
It revealed that as per verification he disclosed that he had been arrested on numerous counts by security forces for involvement in unlawful activities and had been put in the jail too.
The release further added that after his release from jail he re-joined the same outfit in 2010 through one Rocky of Thoubal s/s finance secretary and added that he is presently working under his command it said.
He was also reportedly involved in extortion of money from general public to raise party fund and transportation of arms and ammunition, the release added.
In the mean time, the PRO IGAR (S), in a statement has also informed that a cadre of the KCP (Noyon Faction) was arrested by a combined team of 37 Assam Rifles and 15 Assam Rifles on December 7 from the general area of Yairipok.
The KCP cadre has been identified as Arambam Nanao, 31, s/o A Ibocha of Yairipok Laimanai,Thoubal.
