Women alleges manhandling by suspected police personnel

IMPHAL, Dec 6 (NNN): A 28-year-old woman who is a commercial sex worker was  beaten up by some unidentified uniformed persons suspected to be police personnel here amidst ‘International fortnight observations on violence against women’ around the world as well as in Manipur.

The incident happened on December 4 at around 8 pm at a hotel in North AOC in Imphal when some roguish men in security uniform came rushing into the hotel and reportedly beat up its owner with no reason. The victim, Rose (not real name) 28, from Chandel district, was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital the same day and underwent treatment as she was injured in the incident.

A press meet was held today at the office of Survival Action for Human Rights at Minuthong during which the victim told the media about the awful incident she experienced and said that the miscreants fled the hotel after beating her like anything.

The uniformed men also bashed up some youths outside the hotel on the street, she added.

Survival Action for human Rights convener, Mandir Laishram condemned the incident saying such blatant act is against the International fortnight observations on violence against women across the globe.
