NEW DELHI, December 6 (agencies): World Bank on Tuesday clarified that it is not involved in the proposed Tipaimukh dam project on the river Barak in Manipur.
The clarification came in response to news reports which had wrongly stated that the Tipaimukh dam project would be funded by the multi-lateral lending agency.
The World Bank, it was pointed out, was funding the power transmission project in the north-eastern region which was not linked with the dam project.
While announcing the transmission line project, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent visit to Imphal had said, “I understand that a project for expansion and upgradation of power transmission, sub-transmission and distribution networks in the north eastern states has been posed to the World Bank for funding.”
“I am asking the concerned central government ministries to pursue the matter actively with the World Bank.”
