IMPHAL, January 9: Bishnupur police commandos yesterday arrested an active KYKL cadre and claimed that the said cadre has been instructed by his superiors to cause disturbances to a public meeting of the Congress party.
Speaking to media persons regarding the arrest of the militant, Bishnupur SP Th Radheshyam said the KYKL cadre was arrested following an intelligence input that some militants belonging to the umbrella UG group CorCom were about to cause disturbances to public meetings organised by the Congress party apart from attacking Congress offices, MLAs and workers.
The lone militant was arrested during a swift search operation conducted in Moirang area in the wee hours today, the SP informed media persons during a press conference held today at Bishnupur and claimed that the arrested militant was assigned by his seniors to cause disturbances to a public meeting to be organised by Congress party today.
The arrested militant has been identified as Moirangthem Manaoba alias Prem, 20 s/o Nilamani of Moirang Ngangkhalawai. One 9mm pistol loaded with nine bullets and one Chinese hand-grenade were recovered from his possession.
Further, the Bishnupur SP said the district police have managed to arrest altogether four militants including a women cadre since January 1, 2012 apart from recovering several arms and ammunitions from them.
The SP further said the district police have managed to arrest militants due to the enhanced security measures taken up ahead of the upcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election and the Republic Day celebration.
In the meantime, a release of the SP Imphal east said a combine team of CDO Imphal east and Imphal west has arrested one KCP (MC) cadre from Sangaiprou FCS godown area on January 8 at about 1.50pm.
The arrested militant has been identified as Hamom James Singh, 42 s/o Komla of Moirang Khoiru Leikai. Three live ammunitions of AK series and three extortion notes of KCP(MC) were recovered from the possession of the arrested militant, the release added.
