Rio urges Zeliangrongs to dump Cong

IMPHAL, January 19: Two back to back public meetings of the Naga People Front (NPF) were held today at Tamenglong district. Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio accompanied by PR Zeliang, Cabinet Minister Nagaland, Chumbe Murre, Agriculture Minister Nagaland, Z Lohe, Political Advisor NPF, Zaku, Vice President of Central Committee, Solomon, Vic President of NPF and G. Gaingam, President of NPF Manipur Unit, attended the public meetings. The first meeting took place at Tamenglong Lower ground, which was also graced by Kho John, Gen Secy of NPF.

Speaking at the public meeting at Tamenglong ground Nephiu Rio said, “We have come to seek support for NPF from the people.” He appealed for people to vote for the NPF without any judgement over religion, community and caste. He further said that if the NPF was elected to the Assembly, it would address the lack of development parity. “NPF candidates have been elected representatives in Myanmar and this shows that we have the support of people across geographical boundaries,” he said.

He further said that the support of the Zeliangrong community would be necessary in the elections. “There is no reason why the Zeliangrong community should support the Congress” said Rio who further said that the NPF was open to any Non Congress alliance. Another public meeting at was later held at Noney Common Ground at 1 pm. Another public meeting will also be held at Chandel tomorrow.
