Family members claim body of Dhamen after autopsy with video-recording

IMPHAL, Feb 23: Family members claimed the body of the person who was shot by police commandos in follow-up operation after a non-local was found dead in Keirao.  

The autopsy of Longjam Dhamen, 32, who was allegedly involved in the abduction of the non-local was carried out with video recording as per the request of the family. Earlier, an inquest was ordered in the presence of an SDO.

It may be mentioned that Dhamen’s wife Rani yesterday claimed that her husband was an innocent labour while talking to pressmen. She had stated that Sagolsem Roman, 30, of Keibi Loushangkhong, who asked Dhamen to accompany him and was captured alive by the security personnel should be held responsible for her husband’s death.

Meanwhile, the bullet-riddled body of a former militant was recovered and handed over to family members today, while suspected hill-based militants have reportedly kidnapped a construction worker yesterday.

According to a reliable source, the bullet ridden body of former PULF cadre Md Ajad Khan, 32, son of (late) Bashirruddin of Phundrei Sabal Leikai, Thoubal district was found by villagers at Khonglon under Saparmeina police station on Wednesday morning.

The body was found with a bullet injury on the head.

Sources maintained that he could have been shot dead on February 21.

The villagers informed the Patsoi PS, which is nearer from where the body was found.

The police later recovered the body and deposited it to the RIMS morgue yesterday evening for further post mortem.

His body was handed over to his father’s family members today.

Md Ajad was reportedly staying with his wife, Hempi at Namching Kabui village under Nongchup Keithelmanbi since more than five years back after getting married to a girl from the village.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, on February 22 night at around 10:30pm, a construction worker (mason) identified as Phijam Thoiba, 32, son of Leibakchao Sekta Makha Leikai has been reportedly kidnapped by armed gunmen, suspected to be cadres of a hill based militant outfit from his worksite at Senapati Taxation office which is located opposite to the Henbung police check post.

According to a reliable source, the unidentified gunmen could have been cadres of a particular militant outfit that has been trying to get the contract works of constructing the office.

Meanwhile, according to the Newmai News Network, the police today confirmed that the  mason has been kidnapped by suspected cadres of NsCN-IM.

“A case has been registered at Senapati police regarding the kidnapping, police said. However, the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained and they have begun an investigation into it, the police added” the NNN informed.
