IMPHAL, Feb 26: The curtains came down today on the ‘Two-Day Festival of Rabindranath Tagore’ organized by the Manipur Dramatic Union at its auditorium. The function was attended, among others, by president of MDU, Ksh Ibohal Singh and Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee Thoidingjam Tombi Singh as the president and chief guest respectively.

Tombi eloquently dwelt on the life of the Nobel laureate and his paintings. He stated that Rabindranath Tagore, born into an artistic family, had a unique exposure to the arts from a very young age. In his mature years, his conviction in common humanity influenced his appreciation for the rhythm of life. He derived much inspiration and vision for his paintings from poetry. His initiation into the art of painting accidentally began during a trip to Argentina from doodling.

As a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore, one of his famous play, titled ‘Bisarjan,’ was presented at the concluding function. The festival was organized under the financial assistance of the Union ministry of culture. While the organizers had hoped to celebrate the life of Rabindranath Tagore with exhibitions of his works, presentation of dances and dramas, the festival this year could only present a symposium and a play due to constraints of resources.
