Six suspected militants surrender with arms before IG, BSF

IMPHAL, Feb 15: Six cadres belonging to three different valley-based proscribed outfits surrendered with arms to the IG (BSF), Manohar Lal Batham at a ceremony held at 116 Batallion, Ningthoukhong today.

The surrendered militants are self-styled lance corporal Solendro alias Inaoton, 26, Amarjit alias Mangaljao,17, Thangcha alias Lupheng,28, self-styled corporal Tungdim Jangam alias Mangboi Zou,46, all belonging to UNLF, and L Naobi,28 of RPF/PLA and Hamish, publicity secretary of People’s United Liberation front (PULF).

Altogether, the cadres surrendered five pistols and one carbine along with assorted ammunition.

The IG stated that the surrendered militants are welcomed to return back to the mainstream and their gesture carries a message of goodwill to the people of Manipur. He further said that violence will not bring any positive effect nor will it solve any problems.The BSF has a small presence in the state but despite the odds is trying to bring tranquility and development in the region, he said.

Yesterday, a combined team of Imphal east Commando and 30 AR arrested two PLA cadres, Elangbam Surchandra alias Khanganba Singh, 32, son of E Nitai of Pukhao Naharup Makha Leikai and Ngangom Premkumar alias Lemba, 29, son of Chaoba of Keikon Maning Likai fom Nilakuthi area yesterday morning. The security men seized two mobile phones and live rounds of ammos from them. Police said both of them disclosed themselves as self-style lance corporals. Surchandra joined the organization in 2008 and trained in Myanmar under army no 3153 while Premkumar joined one year earlier. Both of them were working under the command of self-style 2nd Lt Jayanta.

Further on the same day, following the interrogation of Surchandra, two more cadres of the same outfit, Maibam Dhanabir, 47, son of Nipamacha of Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang and self-styled sergeant Sanjenbam Sunita alias Lemchang Chanu, 27, daughter of Bomcha of Soto Dumai in Bangldesh were arrested from Paona Bazar and Uripok Tourangbam Leikai respectively. A mobile phone, four press release notes, two diaries and three M-16 live ammos and a hand bag were recovered from them. On verification, Dhanabir and Sunita allegedly disclosed that they were involved in carrying out attacks on Congress candidates and workers and extortions.

Further, on the same day, a team of Imphal East commando rescued a non-local identified as Pankaj Janardhan Salian, 26, son of Janardhan Salin of Hemade Chol in Bhimnagar Virtak Nagar of Thane from Keikhu Kshetrigao and arrested his kidnapper Md. Ajmal Shah, son of Md Amjad Shah from the area.

Further, on the same day, a combinbed team of Imphal East commando and 28 Assam Rifles arrested two KCP (KK Nganba) cadres, Phijam Rainson alias Amutombi, 18, son of Ibungobi of Pundongbam Makha Leikai and Sapam Thoinaoba alias Surendra, 20, son of S Ibohanbi of Sekta Makha Leikai from Kongpal Iranpham area. One Chinese hand grenade was recovered from their possession. On verification, they disclosed that they joined the outfit in 2011 though Koktang of Sekta and at present worked under the command of one Lairenlakpa of KCP and they were involved in extortion and transportation.

Meanwhile, a team of B Coy of 109 Bn arrested two NSCN (K) cadres, Thorii, son of Loni of Liyai and Athesii, son of Lohrii of Chawai Namei Khunou, who were moving around the strong room storing EVM machines at Senapati yesterday evening. According to a press note, the central policemen deployed on EVM guard duty noticed four persons moving suspiciously around the area. On being challenged, they tried to flee but two of them were arrested. One US-made 9mm pistol and three rounds and a mobile hand set were recovered from the two persons.
