Drug peddlers among arrested militant suspects

IMPHAL, March 20: The Red shield division has managed to apprehend six alleged UGs during separate counter insurgency operations from different parts of the state on Tuesday.

According to a PIB statement, troops of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles and 1/11 Gorkha Rifles carried out a joint operation at Tangjen Makha Leikai Ward no 10 and apprehended one overground worker of the KCP (MC) identified as Laishram Karthik son of L Luthon Meitei resident of Tangjen Makha Leikai, bishenpur district. He has been handed over to the Moirang police.

In another operation carried out by 5 Assam Rifles in the general area Karaong, one alleged NSCN (IM) cadre was apprehended on March 20. He has been identified as s/s lt Aayo Tangkhul, son of Shangpong and a resident of Kachai village, Ukhrul. He was handed over to Imphal west police station, the statement added.

Troops of 43 Assam Rifles also apprehended two KNF (P) cadres from the general area of Kanglatungbi.

The apprehended militants have been identified as Paolet alias Galngam, son of Haokholam and resident of Saparmaina, and Seilen Vaiphei, son of Paojalhun, resident of Saparmaina. One 7.65 mm Pistol was recovered from their possession. They were handed over to the Sekmai police station, the statement added.

Troops of 22 Assam Rifles of the Division also apprehended one alleged UNLF cadre from the general area of Dholakhal. He is identified as s/s cpt Khwairakpam Amit alias Kulajit, son of (l) Kh Koireng and a resident of Dholakhal. He was later handed over to Bada Bekra police station, it stated.

In yet another joint operation carried out by troops of 38 Assam Rifles and 46 Assam Rifles of the Division, the troopers apprehended two alleged KNA cadres suspected to be also drug peddlers from Tuibong Bazar, Churachadpur district.

The cadres are identified as s/s pvt Thnaoba alias John and s/s pvt Thangminlun, both residents of Tuibong Bazar. One AK 47 Rifle and Cash Rs 6,41, 200/- were recovered from their possession. The apprehendees were handed to Imphal West Police Station, the statement added.

Meanwhile, discovering the movement of militants in Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, troops of 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector and 18 Sikh of 9 Sector under hq IGAR (S) launched a joint operation and apprehended one UNLF cadre on March 20.

A PRO press statement has identified the alleged militant as No 1537, s/s sgt major Kshetrimayum Loichangba alias Amarjeet, 32 son of Ksh Maipak resident of Sagolband Tera Loukrapam leikai, Imphal west.

One 9mm pistol and four live rounds, two mobile phones, one external hard disc and one digital camera were recovered from the alleged militant, the statement added.
