Girl killed in road mishap

IMPHAL, March 30: A 18-year-old girl was bludgeoned to death and a boy of the same age critically wounded after they were hit by the door of a passenger bus at Malom market under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district.
The victim girl has been identified as Sonia, 18, daughter of (L) Rajkumar Tangkhul, hailing from Keihao Tangkhul village of Ukhrul district, presently staying at North AOC near Naga River and her injured friend as Chongtham James, 18, son of Sarat from Sagoltongba Makha Leikai in Imphal west.
The road mishap took place last afternoon around 3:30 pm when the driver’s right side door of a moving passenger bus (MN15 C-0167) coming from the opposite direction from Imphal accidentally opened and hit the two teens who were riding on a Honda Dio scooter, killing the pillion rider on the spot and injuring the scooter driver who is now in a serious condition at Shija Hospitals, police said.
Eye witnesses said the girl slammed her head on the road in the accident which left her with fatal injuries.
The body of the victim girl has been handed over to her family after autopsy at RIMS on Friday, police said, adding that a case has also been registered with the Nambol police station regarding the accident.
The condition of the injured is is stated to be critical, according to the hospital sources.
