Locals form JAC against Ingotomba killing, rubbish police`s encounter claim

IMPHAL, March 13: While police have claimed killing an alleged militant during an encounter on Monday night at around 7:35pm near the Wakching maning canal under Nambol police, local meira paibis have alleged that the individual was killed after being kidnapped by unidentified persons. Locals also formed a JAC in this regard.

According to a police source, the individual identified as Meitram Ingotomba, 35, s/o Kamal of Leimaram Makha Leikai was killed during an encounter with a combined team of Bishnupur police and 18 Sikh regiment and recovered one AK 56 with a magazine and four live rounds from him.

Meanwhile, locals including family members of the alleged militant denied the encounter claim and organized a sit in protest at Leimaram today claiming that he was killed after being arrested.

A press meet was also called by the Leimaram Meira Paibi at Leimaram today.

Speaking to media persons, secretary of the maira paibi body, Leichonbam Sanahanbi said that Ingotomba was arrested in March, 2011 by security forces for having links with KCP (MC) and jailed for a month. 

She further told media persons that some unidentified individuals had kidnapped Ingotomba from a local alcohol vendor run by one Yaima at around 7pm of March 10. The assailants were not uniformed. Ingotmba is survived by his wife and two children, she added.

A JAC has been instituted in this regard which further took the decision to carry out agitations if the culprits are not booked by the police within tomorrow. A sit in protest was also held at Leimaram Shanti Bazar.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident an individual was hurt in an accidental firing from a licenced gun at Uripok Polem Leikai at about 11pm on Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Ningthoukhongjam Bishorjit alias Khoudi, 33, s/o late Mubi of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai.

The incident happened when Bishorjit was having a dinner party with his friend Longjam Koba 36, s/o late Lalpapu at the latter’s residence.

Bishorjit was hit on his right calf when Koba accidentally fired from his .32 pistol.
