MCP appeals public to support Mar 31 general strike

IMPHAL, March 30: The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCP) today appealed the people to support the 12-hour general strike being imposed by the militant outfit on March 31 to condemn the alleged killing of two bus handymen at Keishampat here.
All the drivers of autorickshaw, bus, taxi and those who are working at various firms and institutions in the state are earnestly requested to support the strike which will begin from 5 am and end at 5 pm of March 31, a statement issued by Comrade Nonglen Meitei, secretary publicity and propaganda of Maoist Communist Party, Manipur said.
The outfit in its earlier statement had informed that the bandh would be imposed from 6 am to 6 pm of March 31.
The outfit cannot take lightly the incident where two innocents were burnt to death so the Maoist Communist Party earnestly plead with the general public to support the strike, the statement said.
It also said the outfit would not regret any opposition of the strike by those people who think the bandh as unreasonable, but those who think it as right are requested to support it fully.
The statement, however, said journalist, electricity service, hospitals and other religious related occasions will not be covered within the purview of the strike.
