NEDF against construction of Dams on Yarlung Tsangpo

IMPHAL, MARCH: North East Dialogue Forum a network of NGOs, religious bodies, civil society organizations and women organization working at various parts of the NE states of India has submitted a joint memorandum of 51 Civil Society on September 10 to the Premier of China and Prime Minister of India on the issue of construction of dams on Yarlung Tsangpo and Siang Rivers.
According to a press release, the memorandum was submitted with the proposal, to stop all existing and proposed dam construction activities on Yarlung Tsangpo (in Tibet and China) and Brahmaputra river in India, Siang Rivers, etc., as an alternative means for energy requirement, NEDF urge both the leaders of the countries to initiate micro hydel projects instead of mega dams to bring an equal area development and to protect our environment as well and collectively agree to hold these rivers as heritage site/Rivers for all future generations to come.
