Joint CEO, N Praveen briefing mediapersons at his chamber located at Old Secretariat complex today said, following directives from the ECI fresh polls were conducted today except for four polling stations which comes under Tamenglong district and belongs to Tamei 52(ST). He notified that the four stations are 52/1 Makuilong,52/2 Lemta,52/5 Kadi and 52/7 Dunong.The scheduled repoll for these polling stations was differed due to bad road connectivity as a landslide had blocked the road and the polling personnel could not reach the interior part.
He stated that the repoll for these stations will be held on Monday and will begin from 7am till 3 pm.
“By and large, the 63 stations has seen peaceful repoll, we are thankful for the public of the said area for turning up in large numbers to exercise their right”, he further stated that the exact percentage of the voter turnout is yet to be ascertained as some of the assigned ROs and DEOs have not reached their respective headquarters.
He further said that to address the problem, the EVMs will be airlifted tomorrow. The polling stations from which the EVMs needs to airlifted are 52 Tamei,Namthiram. 10 EVMs from Chandel district, 3 from Tamenglong, 1 EVM each from Churachandpur and Ukhrul. The EVMs of Tamei will be used for repoll tomorrow will be airlifted Monday morning.
Praveen further stated that for the first time in the state, the counting process will be webcasted live on the internet at the website of the CEO (www.ceomanipur.nic.in) and the link for live viewing has been given in the site.
Till 5 pm today, the average percentage of polling are 40% for Churachandpur, 61% for Senapati,73.88% for Ukhrul and Chandel recorded the highest at 83 %. The polling results for Tamenglong is not available as all electronic communications of the said area has remained cut off.
The joint CEO said that counting of votes will be held on March 6 as fixed earlier.
Meanwhile, Newmai News Network added that during today’s re-polling, Chandel constituency alone voted in 25 polling stations followed by 13 polling stations in Karong constituency, while one polling station each in Tengnoupal, 45-Chingai and Singhat constituencies, two in Saikul constituency, six in Mao constituency, 10 in Tadubi constituency, and eight in Tamei constituency went to re-polling.
In Chandel district, 83.04 per cent voting was registered followed by Ukhrul at 73.88 per cent and Senapati 61 per cent, while record for Tamenglong district was not available.
In Tamenglong district, four polling stations will go to re-poll tomorrow as the polling personnel could not reach their destination due to heavy rain and landslide, official sources said. The leftout polling booths are 52/1 Makuilong, 52/2 Lemtak, 52/5 kadi and 52/7 Dulong, the source informed.
In Chandel district, 10 polling stations are located near the international border with Myanmar and all the EVMs and the Presiding Officer would be airlifted to facilitate smooth counting of votes slated for March 6, the district Deputy Commissioner, Th. Chitaranjan said while briefing the media here on Sunday.
Two polling booths of Chandel district—Modi and Unapat –had voted in the February 4 re-poll too, but again went to re-poll today after reports of mass proxy voting.
