Security forces claim rich haul of militants in past week

IMPHAL, March 14: Security forces have managed to arrest nine alleged militants and three over ground workers of various militant outfits from the state since March 8.

According to a statement of the PIB, a team of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles and 6/8 Gorkha Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield division apprehended one KCP(MC) cadre from the general area of Bishenpur on March 8.

The alleged militant has been identified as s/s pvt Ksu Upa alias Manigun son of Ksh Jyanta resident of Bishenpur ward no 9.

It has further added that Ksu Upa joined the outfit in 1995 and was involved in tax collection in Bishenpur and also used to supply food and clothing to KYKL and KCP (MC) cadres. He was later handed over to the Bishenpur police, the stated added.

Further according to the statement, a team of 10 DOGRA under the aegis of the Red Shield division nabbed two alleged KNF (P) and one over ground worker from the general area of T/Waichong on March 10.

It has identified the arrested persons as s/s pvt Jangminlal Kipgen son of Seitiminlal, resident of Songjang, Senapati district, s/s pvt Thangneo son of Alal resident of Songpijang, Senapati, Dehlam Doungel an OGW of KNF (P) son of Jangkhao resident of T/Waichong, Tamenglong.

A large number of incriminating documents were recovered from their possession. The apprehendees were later handed over to Imphal west police station, the statement added.

In another operation, 13 Assam Rifles of the division nabbed three cadres of NSCN (IM) moving in a Tata Sumo from Awangkhul to Nonei on NH-37.

The NSCN (IM) cadres were identified as KH Fhilimon, Khiamping Khumba and Neilor Cheeru, all residents of Nungtek, Tamenglong, it added.

Rs 80000 and other incriminating documents were recovered from their possession, the statement added. The three has been handed over to the Imphal west police, the statement added.

In yet another operation, 43 Assam Rifles of the division nabbed one OGW of KCP(MC) from general area KPI ward No 11 identified as Salam Gyanchandra alias Salam son of Latsu Chandra resident of Chingamaka Lamphei, Imphal west. The apprehendee was handed over to Imphal west police station, the statement added.

Further according to the statement, on March 10, a team of 10 DOGRA under the aegis of the Red Shield Division apprehended a cadre of Naga National Council (NNC) from the general area Khonshaghul. The apprehendee has been identified as s/s col Padingam, son of (late) Kawak Lal, resident of Khongshaghul Lungwiram, district Senapati. He was handed over to Imphal West Police Station, the statement added.

Troops of 33 AR apprehended an over ground worker of KYKL and a cadre of PULF (Umar Quaz).

A combined team of 33 AR and Kumbi Police Commandoes arrested one OGW of KYKL identified as Ningthoujam Robin Singh, r/o Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai

In another search operation carried out in Kamlakhong Makha Leikai on 13 Mar 2012, troops of 33 Assam Rifles apprehended a cadre of PULF (UMAR ZUAZI) group, named Md Abdul Kalam son of Md Tommei r/o Kamlakhong Makha Leikai, the statement added.

In another operation carried out by 22 Assam Rifles of the Division in general area of Dibong Makha Leikai, a cadre of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was apprehended by the troops. He was identified as SS Sergeant Major Phaklangbam Taibangjamba alias Gyaneshwar, s/o Late Ph Baba, r/o Dibong Makha Leikai, Jiribam, district Imphal East. Individual was handed over to Jiribam Police Station.
