SHWU, UCM condemn gangrape

KANGPOKPI, March 30: Sadar Hills Women Union, SHWU has strongly condemned the gangrape of a housewife on March 22 in Bishnupur district.
In connection with the incident, president of Sadar Hills Women Union Ngahboi Momin met local media persons at her residence.
She maintained that involvement of state forces personnel in committing such a monstrous crime against women is very unfortunate and that it has flabbergasted every citizen.
While pointing out the importance of women’s role in moulding a good society, administration and government Momin averred that women also make history and they can do it. For good governance and administration every society needs good women. So everyone should keep due regard to women for better tomorrow.
She thundered that crimes against women show the backwardness of the society and improper governance and administration of the government.
So the state Home department should initiate such action against the rapists that no one dares to commit this monstrous act against women in future.
She also stated that the Sadar Hills Women Union will cooperate and support any movement launched by the Joint Action Committee in connection with the incident to uplift the status of women welfare.
The Peoples Action for National Democratic Movement and the United Committee Manipur has also strongly condemned the act.
Separate press releases of the two bodies have demanded stern action against all involved in the case.
