Ukhrul DC pulls up contractor on deplorable condition of road

UKHRUL, March 1: “Bad roads lead to public nuisance”, said Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R Sudhan, while inspecting the 4.6 km road stretch under construction from Viewland cemetery to Somsai highway via St Joseph College along the Ukhrul Eastern Circular road on Wednesday morning.

The Deputy Commissioner was making the inspection tour following complaints from the Hunphun Executive Council, HEC about the sub-standard quality of work undertaken.

The district authority further served an official observation after the inspection stating that the condition of the road was found to be sub-standard and further stated that the condition of the said road could be an imminent danger to human life and the safety of passengers plying along the said road.

The observation further intimated the concerned special contractor on the condition of the road stretch.

The Deputy Commissioner had further instructed the concerned contractor to repair the road as required in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and relevant estimates of the said work within March 4, and added that failure to do so; the contractor shall be liable to appear before the District Magistrate on March 4 at 11 am.

The Ukhrul District Magistrate was accompanied by the concern Ukhrul PWD officials, members of HEC from the complainant side, concerned special contractor`s in-charge and media-persons during the inspection. The joint inspection team also overviewed the deplorable road condition at Ukhrul Awungtang at Savio School Ukhrul and then inspected the Eastern Circular Road in Ukhrul town.

The Ukhrul District Magistrate in his office chamber further advice the contractor to maintain the mark of standard in the repairing of the road in the interest of the people.
