IMPHAL, March 20: A 20 year old person was found hanging dead inside his room at Leimakhong Mapan Mamang Leikai, under Lamlai police station this morning under suspicious condition. Both his parents were away from home last night.
Suspecting foul play, family members had declined to take the dead body which had been shifted at the JNIMS morgue.
The dead person has been identified as one Thoudam Ango alias Barn son of Pishak.
A source has informed that Ango was engaged by one Saikhom Sanahanba alias Suraj, 40 son of Iboyai of Lamlai Chalou some two months back as labourer to break stone at his residence.
Ango had still some pending charge of Rs 400 to receive from Sanahanba regarding the work and had talked to Sanhanba’s wife Bijyenti on March 18 morning regarding the due payment. However Bijyenti had told him that they have no money at the moment and an argument had ensued between the two over the phone, the source added.
The same day at about 8pm, Sanahanba accompanied by his wife and some others had arrived at Ango’s residence in two vehicles including a Maruti car. They further assaulted Ango and after threatening him left from the place, the source further informed.
Further according to the source, some unidentified army personnel had also arrived at Ango’s residence yesterday morning and enquired Ango about the payment and left soon after without saying anything.
Last night after spending some time at his sister’s residence who was married in the same locality, Ango had left for his home at around 8:30pm saying that he is feeling sleepy, however he was found hanging inside his room this early morning.
Suspicion of an outside hand was raised as Ango was found dead in a kneeling position even though he was hanged, the source added and as his windows were left open. The contact numbers in his mobile phone were also found to be deleted which only strengthen the suspicion of an outside hand.
