Aunt charged with vanishing 32 yr old

A sit in protest on Saturday demanding the release of a man who was taken away by his aunt with a promise of job.
IMPHAL, April 21: Locals and meira paibis of Patsoi today staged a sit in protest at Patsoi Pt II community hall appealing the safe release of Sapam Chaoba, 32 son of Shyam of Patsoi Pt III, who has remain traceless since he was taken away by his own maternal aunt last October with the promise of a job at Jiribam.

On the other side, Chaoba’s maternal aunt Rashitombi has been remanded to 15 days police custody today by the court.

Rashitombi was arrested following a FIR lodged by Chaoba’s family of April 16.

Speaking to media person on the sidelines of the sit-in-protest, Manitomba, Chaoba’s elder brother said, Rashitombi of Haorangsabal their maternal aunt had come along with another unidentified woman on October 13, 2011 with a job offer for Chaoba.

She offered Chaoba a job at Jiribam with a daily wage of Rs 300 as a mason and took him alongwith her on the same day, Manitomba said.

After Chaoba left alongwith his aunt, whenever his family tried to contact him, Rashitombi had denied them his contact saying Chaoba is busy in his work and that the family should not disturb him.

However, when it continued for too long, Chaoba’s father and Manitomba went to Jiribam enquiring about him, but on reaching there, Rashitombi informed them that Chaoba has changed his place of work and is now staying at Moreh.

Suspecting foul play with Rashitombi’s reply, the father-son duo further went to Moreh there also they failed to find Chaoba, Manitonmba told media persons.

On January 28, 2012, Chaoba’s father accompanied by Manitombi went to Rashitombi’s residence, but was however chased away from there by Rashitombi and her supporters using abusive and threatening words.

They waited for some time, however unable to do anything, they lodge a formal complaint with the Patsoi PS on April 16, following which the police picked up both Rashitombi and her unidentified companion who has been established as one Memchoubi from Thangmeiband, he informed.

Following their arrest, two unknown individuals came to their house and threaten the family with dire consequence if they fail to cancel their complaint against Rashitombi and her companion with the police. The two further told the Chaoba’s family that he is now in their custody and that he has already been recruited as a cadre of their militant outfit. The two also gave the family a mobile no, he added.

Meanwhile, during the sit in protest, the locals demanded that the two women to be held under police custody until Chaoba is release.

Later on the angered protesters stormed the Chierap court gate during the hearing of the two women.

Memchoubi has been provided with a PR bond of Rs 20000, while Rashitombi has been remanded for another 15 days police remand.
