FRIENDS clears stand on ban of B-Braun Company

IMPHAL, April 22: The Federation of Indigenous Societies (FRIENDS) on Sunday made it clear that the civil body has already banned all kinds of medicines manufactured by B-Braun Company in the state for selling its products beyond expiry date and charging high rate.

Stating that Lamphel Pharmacy should clarify to the public on how much it has sold B-Braun Company’s medicines from April 2011- January 2012, FRIENDS alleged that B-Braun Company in cahoots with Lamphel Pharmacy have collected a huge amount of money from the public through fraudulent means, according to statement.

Warning that the people will not forgive such illegal practices, FRIENDS further called upon the state Medical Directorate to take up necessary action in this regard.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) said the controversy over B-Braun Company will be resolved after receiving reports from all the concerned parties and the same will be made known to the public.

Saying that it would be impossible for MCDA to know all the illegal sales of medicines in the state, it denied receiving any complaint officially from any body regarding the sale of B-Braun products beyond expiry date or charging high rate, according to a release issued by MCDA general secretary, Dr RK Ratan.

It further said B-Braun Company manufactures IV fluid and surgical items which are of international standard and the products of this foreign company are also like by doctors.

Hospitals and patients in the state may face serious problems if the company is banned from selling its products, MCDA further added.
