No lacuna in MU Committee: VC

IMPHAL, April 9: There is no lacuna in the procedure of constituting the syllabus committee of Human Rights & Duties Education in Manipur University and the said committee has already approved the syllabus in the interests of the students, Vice-Chancellor (Prof) H Nandakumar Sharma clarified today.

Briefing newsmen in his office at Canchipur Prof Nandakumar said, he alongwith the Registrar (Prof) N Lokendra and Dean of Social Sciences Prof Amar Yumnam had gone to New Delhi to attend a scheduled meeting of the Finance Committee of Universities to discuss the annual plan.

He further clarified that, the New Delhi visit was not to evade questions on the delayed advertisements for openings of Research Associates in the Centres of Myanmar studies, Human Rights & Duties Education and Southeast Asian Studies.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Human resource ministry and Finance ministry and from the UGC.

Elaborating on the syllabus issue of the Human Rights and Duties certificate course, he expressed that there has been certain misunderstanding regarding the issue.

Prof Nandakumar stated that since there was no proper syllabus of the course as approved by the UGC, even though the classes had already started, the university authorities under the VC instituted a committee to formalize the syllabus. The action was taken in order to save the careers of the students who were enrolled in the course and done under the Manipur University Act 2005 in a very democratic way and now the course has a properly approved syllabus.
