NSCN-IM cadres held alongwith huge cache of arms

IMPHAL, April 15: In yet another successful operation by Red Shield Division, 25 Assam Rifles along with intelligence units of Army and Assam Police nabbed the Town Commander of NSCN (IM) identified as s/s 2nd lt Kiseluing Jeme (a resident of Hajaichak, Dima Hasao) along with two OGWs Hungsaming Jeme (a resident of Hajaichak, Dima Hasao) and Isamteung Newme from HAFLONG Hill today.

A PIB release said that the individuals were apprehended while the three were executing extortion plans and a successful chase from Boro Haflong to Haflong Hill.

It has further said that subsequent questioning of the NSCN (IM) town commander also led to recovery of two Chinese grenades, one 9mm Pistol, 14 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, two mobile handsets with SIM Cards and one extortion demand note from the forest area near Lungiram Basti.

It also said the operation has been commended by the district administration for its future impact on NSCN (IM) influence in Dima Hasao region.  The individuals were later handed over to the Haflong Police Station on April 14 along with the recovered arms and ammunition, it added.

Meanwhile, according to the Newmai News Network: Altogether 13 cadres of NSCN-IM have been arrested and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the `hideout on Friday in the outskirts of Dimapur.

According to the Assam Rifles source, troops of 20 Assam Rifles, 6 Sector AR under HQ IGAR (North), based on reliable information regarding the presence of NSCN (IM) cadres in a safe hideout in Chumukedima Ward No 1 in the outskirt of Dimapur conducted a swift operation, which resulted in the apprehension of 13 NSCN(IM) cadres and recovered one 9mm pistol, a .22 rifle, more than 3000 rounds (ammunition) of various weapons, detonators and large amount of communication and surveillance equipments.

“The operations incorporated all humanitarian facets to act within existing Cease Fire Ground Rules, yet arrest the law breakers to maintain a peaceful Nagaland,” added the Assam Rifles source.

The source said that according to the input, the NSCN-IM cadres had set up a temporary hideout in vicinity of a house belonging to self style colonel Yaritiva Lotha of NSCN(IM) who is presently residing at the Herbon Camp. It had also been noticed that the cadres were using the safe house for transit and keeping the weapons and ammunition for short duration for further supplying it to other parts of the state for nefarious activities, the Assam Rifles source added. An area cordon was established around the specified house by maintaining utmost stealth during the early hours of the day and the search of the aea was started subsequently. During the swift search of the safe house the resident cadres panicked and attempted to flee by breaking the cordon. However, with absolute disregard to personal safety and maintaining a high standard of self control and discipline the troops captured the fleeing cadres with no collateral damage and completed the search operation, the Assam Rifles source stated.

“The effort by the security forces has been appreciated by the residents of Chumukedima for whom this act of bravery has brought a new ray of hope for a better future and a peaceful Nagaland,” the Asam Rifles said today.
