IMPHAL, April 15: Locals of Yarou Bamdiyar, Bishnupur district today staged a sit-in protest against the attempted murder of the husband of a Gram Panchayat Pradhan by suspected militants yesterday.
Leitanthem Binoy, husband of Sorojini, a Pradhan of Yarou Bomdiyar from Awang Jiri Mayai Lekai, was allegedly tried to shoot and kill by some unknown persons suspected to be militants yesterday in his own locality.
The banned KCP (MC) had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh from Binoy last year and he was also shot at and injured by suspected cadres of KCP (MC) over the monetary demand on December 25, 2011.
Dead Body: Meanwhile a dead body was found floating on the Imphal River near Kekrupat in Imphal west this afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as one Md Abdul Satar, 38, son of (L) Chaoba of Santhel Hangun under Mayang Imphal police station in Thoubal district, police said, before adding that Abdul, a rickshaw puller, had been staying in a rented house for a couple of years at Hatta Golapati in Imphal east.
His body was spotted by some passersby floating on the Imphal River near Keikhrupat around 3:30pm this afternoon.
The body was picked up by police and later identified.
It is not known how Abdul died and ended up in the river, however the poice have started an investigation on this regard.
