The vehicle lifters were caught in the act from different places since April 9, claimed the police.
However police informed that the mastermind of the gang is still absconding with 35 stolen vehicles and that the police are on his trail, police stated.
The four alongwith three recovered vehicles were this evening paraded before the media at the Imphal Police station.
The vehicle lifters have been identified as Ayekpam Sushil kumar, 32, son of (L) A Khomei of Mutum Phibou, Ayekpam Meijaoba, 28 son of A Heramot of Mutum Phibou Mayai Leikai and Thokchom Gambhirchand, 25 son of Gandhi ofMutum Phibou Mamang leikai. Their helper is identified to be Md Amu, 52 son of Abdul Lula of Lilong Khunou.
Addressing the media persons this evening at the police station, Imphal west OC SK Singh stated that while Ayekpam Sushil was arrested from near the AG office Lamphel while trying to steal a vehicle on April 9 at around 3pm, Ayekpam Meijaoba was arrested the same day later in the evening from the Khwairamband Bazar area, and recovered the Yamaha motor cycle from their clue.
Further questioning of the two led to the arrest of their third partner.
The police officer further informed that Thokchom Gambhirchand was arrested from his residence on April 10 and recovered the steel colour Activa.
He further stated that during further interrogation, the three identified Md Amu as their helper and that they hide the stolen vehicles at his residence which led to the arrest of Md Amu.
Police recovered a stolen Yamaha Libero and spare parts and tools used during their heist, he added.
The main accused is from Lilong Chingkham area and is still absconding, he added.
The police officer further appeal to the public that the two wheelers are vulnerable to theft and that owners should used double locking system to ensure that their vehicles are not stolen.
The three vehicle lifters are all drug addicts and the police have been providing treatment to the three at a rehabilitation in Imphal, the police officer added.
