IMPHAL, May 9: Three PREPAK suspects were killed during an encounter with personnel of 23 Assam Rifles at Chadong Tangkhul village near Maphou Dam under Litan PS of Ukrul district this noon, according to police sources.
The encounter continued for more than 20 minutes, the source added. One carbine, one M-16 and one Lathode gun were recovered from the area, the source further informed.
On receiving specific information about the presence of some militants at the area, the AR personnel rushed to the spot, and on being fire upon by the already present militant suspects, the AR team retaliated. After firing from both sides ceased, the AR team inspected the area and found the three dead bodies and the weapons, the source added.
Further details and identifications of the militant suspects were awaited till the filling of the incident.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, unidentified persons fired two rounds upon the residence of a PWD contractor identified as Ngangbam Basanta, 38 of Uripok Achom Leikai late last night at around 10:35pm.
