AK missing from MR post

IMPHAL, May 24: An AK 47 rifle has been found missing from the arms cot of the recently set up 6th Manipur Rifles post at the Inspection Bugalow of Jessami in Ukhrul district this morning.

The missing rifle is however without a magazine or live ammunitions.

It was detected by the Cot Naik of the post early this morning, informed a police source.

The police source also said that the weapon could have been lost in between 7pm to 9pm last night while the rifle had been placed inside the arms cot.

In connection with the missing rifle, rifleman No 062006484 Lengthomang who was on duty last night at the arms cot has been picked up for interrogation and has been handed over to the Jessami PS, the source added.

Meanwhile CO 6 MR KT Anal, SDPO Jessami Lomashan, SDPO Phungyar, Ukhrul Reserve Inspector Chiphang will visit the Jessami PS on May 25 to investigate the incident.

The police team will incorporate the villagers and local NGOs in its effort to trace the mission weapon, said the police source.

In the meantime an unconfirmed source has also said that the back door of the arms cot was found broken this morning.

Mentioned may be made that the post had been recently set up at the village after the recent Meluri-Jessami land feud.
